There are some Arab Nationalists who would never forgive Chalabi the heavy enrollment in toppling Saddam regime. Here is one example, I am wondering what this lady will do for her dinner for the next four years watching Chalabi as a mainfigure in Iraqi politics ;)

And frankly I felt so ill in those 20 mn, I was unable to eat anything the whole evening. I felt so ill because never in my life have I come across someone who can lie so much in such little space of time. Except maybe for one person I knew, but at least he/she did not have bloodied hands like Chalabi's.

<H1>Baghdad revisited: the Chalabi family's return from exile

Tamara Chalabi, daughter of the controversial Iraqi politician Ahmed Chalabi, tells the story of her family's life in Baghdad before and after Saddam

Tamara's tale is not about WMDs or insurgents. It is the story of a bourgeois Iraqi family set against the opulent backdrop of the Ottoman Empire. It is the story of Chalabi's grandmother Bibi, who lived 'like a queen' in grand, pre-Saddam Baghdad, and had nine children (the youngest, born when she was 45, was Ahmed). It is the story of Iraq, but told from an Iraqi woman's perspective; then it also becomes the story of a young woman's struggle for identity.

I have known the Chalabis for more than a decade. In early summer, when the temperature reaches nearly 48C in the middle of the day, I visit Tamara in the family compound in the Mansour neighbourhood of Baghdad. She has been living here on and off since 2003 (she divides her time between Baghdad and Istanbul), and this month she is staying in the big house that she shares with her father and younger brother, working for the family's charitable foundation. The compound is also home to extended family members, and is heavily guarded. Security-wise, Baghdad, although better than it was immediately after the fall of Saddam, is still a deadly city. When Chalabi travels through town, she does so in an armoured car, with a security detail, about which she is clearly embarrassed. 'Oh, I don't know, they come from the government,' she says airily of the soldiers. There are also loyal members of the INC who have remained with the family for years, devoted to Ahmed and his children.
